
I was 4.
Old enough to feel confusion-
Yet not know what it was.
It must have been their voices that woke me.
Dark-
The Night was like that in the cellar.
I walked towards their hushed patter.
Mom was there.
Dad was away.
There was someone else.
I didn't know the other woman.
They were laughing.
And I just looked.
I startled them beneath the blanket infront the woodstove.
It didn't feel right, but Mom said it was okay.
I had to believe her.
I was a child.
